Sample Lesson Plan

Component : Reading : Identifying Main Ideas and supporting details

Level : Beginners.

Objective: By the end of the lesson, students should be able to identify main idea and the supporting details of a reading content.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to

  1. Identify the main idea of each paragraph.
  2. Identify the supporting details of the paragraphs.

 

Induction set Teachers activity
   

  1. Teacher greets the students.
  2. Teacher recaps previous class activity.
  3. Teacher shows students a picture related to the paragraphs
  4. Teacher asks students to describe the pictures.
  5. Teacher shows students a paragraph related to the picture

 

 

 

 

 

 

Procedure
  1. Teacher distributes handouts containing 5 paragraphs.
  2. Teacher asks students to read the paragraphs.
  3. Teacher asks students if they are able to identify the main idea of the paragraphs.
  4. Teacher then explains to the students the strategies to identify the main idea of a paragraph.
  5. Teacher then explains the strategies to identify the supporting details of a paragraph.

 

ACTIVITIES:

  1. Teacher asks students to complete the exercises in the handout.
  2. Teacher then discusses the answers together with the students.
Conclusion Teacher ends the class by giving homework to the students ( Based on the exercise book provided by the college)

 

Teacher ends the lesson.
